After graduating Valparaiso University School of Law, Richard clerked for Pike County (Kentucky) Circuit Judges Baird Colleton and Charles Lowe in Kentucky.

He then served as a public defender in Orangeburg, SC. He fought for clients that otherwise would have been worked through the system and jailed due to plea bargaining. It was here that Richard developed a reputation as a fighter that didn’t allow the system to have its way with people accused of a crime.

His success against “the machine” inspired him to move to North Myrtle Beach and open his own practice where the constraints of government scheduling would not hinder each client to get the detailed defense they deserved.
