Sometimes cops just don’t like someone and that’s all there is to it.
The little beach town passed to law to get money from movie crews that were making movies in their town. The preface to the law and the text of the law is explicit in what they are trying to do, yet when this cop approached a guy who was recording with his cell phone on the boardwalk, they cited the ordinance number several times and tried to intimidate him into leaving.
But the cops knew who this guy was.
This guy made a habit of “auditing” police – recording them to see how they react. Uploading the videos to youtube for his 15 minutes and maybe a little monetization. The cops were tired of it and began harassing him.
They finally gave him a ticket (we’re waiting for the video of the court date) and keep harassing him afterwards while he points out several other people that have their phones out recording. He even implores more people to record the cops giving him the ticket.
The Supreme Court of the United States has spoken. You have the right to record video in public places. You must remember that antagonizing cops is never a good idea, they always have guns and sometimes bad things happen. We never recommend harassing the police but we do think that you should record your interactions, since not all police have bodycams and not all bodycams always record.
If you have an interaction with the police. record it. Act politely but record it.
